An evening at Google

Last night I went to the New York Linux User Group's (NYLUG) monthly meeting held at Google. My motivation for going was 25% interest in hearing a talk about PCLinuxOS and 75% curiosity to see the inside of Google. I was not disappointed. Everything in the office was brightly colored, there were toys strewn about, and all the security people looked downright classy. (We were there after hours, so the only employees we saw were security... and there were a lot of security people)

The best part of the whole experience was the free "refreshments" before the meeting. The NYLUG website said, "For those of us here in the east who aren't used to a "Google spread", you're in for quite a treat." Quite a treat it was. The "refreshments" turned out to be crab cakes, filet mignon skewers, some sort of spinach phyllo dough thing, four different kinds of exotic cheeses, mini quiches, fresh fruit/vegetables, and more. To top it all off, they had two staffed bars with free wine, beer (including Yuengling and Brooklyn Lager), pop, and smart water.

The meeting turned out to be pretty interesting, so I can see myself going back next month.

I didn't take this or any of these pictures (google image search) but they provide pretty good examples. You can see the bright colors and the random rubber ball.
I want to work here...

This was the room we were in. More rubber balls... Google director chairs... Lots of screens...
